Jordan. An Arab country that is not only located near multiple biblical countries, but also is one itself.
From the River Jordan where John the Baptist baptized Jesus to Mount Nebo where Moses looked over the Land of Canaan and saw the Promised Land, these sites contain a significant amount of history. People from all walks of life travel throughout this Middle Eastern country to not only walk along the same paths of Christ but to experience the Jordanian lifestyle.
I am still in awe that I was able to visit my friend in Amman and experience the life as a local! From delicious treats to learning how to say a simple "thank you", the short time I spent here was packed with many memories that I will get to cherish for the rest of my life.
Food
Honestly, I love Greek food. (actually all food) So when I saw hummus and French fries were a popular dish in Amman, you know I already basically fell in love with the place. Our lunch (featured above) consisted of pita bread, falafel, moutabel, hummus, salad and of course French fries. Along with our meal we had hot herbal tea as it was cold in the month of March!
A local restaurant that we found in downtown Amman was called Hashem Rest. It is a very popular restaurant with not only the locals, but foreigners as well. As you could tell from the delightful dishes that were placed in front of me, their taste was definitely worthwhile.
Side note** If you so happen to try this wonderful place, make sure you get some ideas of what you would like to order beforehand. There is no menu there :)
Amman
In the city of Amman itself, there are an abundance of site seeing activities to do. To name a few, they include: Citadel, Roman Theatre, King Abdullah I Mosque, and Temple of Hercules. One the outskirts of Amman, I was able to see the Baptism site of Jesus as well as adventure out into the Dead Sea. Sure the water was a bit cold but it was worth getting to float and never have to worry about sinking.
I live for moments that are not expected. For example, while we were walking to the Jordan River, just across from it we saw Palestine's doing a baptism service. Although when I visited the river was flooded, so people were not able to be baptized in the river like usual. It was still an amazing experience to be able to see those who love Jesus get to be cleansed in the same spot where He was immersed himself.
The country of Jordan has a variety of all different types of climates and landforms which makes exploring the country even more enjoyable!
There are still many historic sites that I was not able to witness on this trip.
But, that gives me all the more reason to come back.
