Around 70 bands on 4 stages and over 100,00 people gather in the charming city of New Orleans, Louisiana, to enjoy multiple genres of music and art exhibits displayed around the closed-in festival. I was able to experience my FIRST MUSIC FESTIVAL EVER and it will be one to beat for sure.
Here are the lessons I learned that will prepare me for my next Voodoo Experience.
Purchasing tickets
Luckily the purchasing process for tickets are very simple and explained clearly on their website. On the website www.voodoofestival.com you are able to view what groups will be performing at the venue, the date and deals available!
When you arrive, maps are offered near the entrance so you are able to plan out your day and navigate though the facility.
Worried about carrying around cash? There is no need! You are able to program your credit card onto your wrist band. The magnetic strip sewed into the band allows you to make purchases at all the bars and food venues on the site with just a scan of your wrist.
Parking
Uber is a nightmare
My dear friends, a piece of advice- taking Uber to the venue is no big deal, getting an Uber back? You will never get one! Voodoo offers an Uber tent after the performances have come to an end where you are able to wait and an Uber will pick you up. But, there are so many people that need a ride that you are going to have to wait hours until there are some available or have you will have to pay for an Uber more than the usual price.
Taking a vehicle and parking it in a free parking space a couple blocks away from the venue is the best solution. It is free and we were able to come and go as we pleased. If you do not wish to drive, leaving the concert early or walking a ways from the venue will make it easier for a Uber or cab to pick you up.
The adventure there
The Voodoo Experience venue is located at the City Park in New Orleans, Louisiana.
My friends and I left from our hometown a day before the three day event started to settle in our hotel and enjoy the city of New Orleans.
With a great girl gang the long drive goes by quickly!
What to bring
Empty bottle of water (cannot bring a full one in the venue but there are free water fountains available) Drivers license
Jacket
Comfortable shoes
Food & drinks
There are multiple booths offering a variety of foods and main tents that serve beverages. One of my favorite drinks was an Angry Orchard (around $8.00). It was a refreshing drink and not too strong to start the day.
The food and drink booths are open from 12pm-11pm so you do not have to worry about them closing while you are listening to your favorites bands.
Outfit inspirations
Since the festival occurs during the weekend of Halloween, you are able to wear WHATEVER YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE IN!!! Throughout the event the days were warm and the evenings were cold. I suggest taking a jacket or sweater that you can tie around your waist during the day and then use to bundle up at night.
Now go get spooky
Now go get dressed, grab your friends, and go join the Halloween ritual that people travel from all over to experience.
Combining Louisiana cuisine, handcrafted art and multiple types of music, you are able to feel the mysterious Voodoo throughout the ghostly weekend.
